7 Free Tools Every Digital Business Should Try in 2026
You do not need a budget to improve your operations -- you need to know what is out there.
Every year new tools appear and others improve so much that it no longer makes sense to pay for expensive alternatives. These seven are tools I either use myself or have recommended to real clients in recent months. All of them have a genuinely functional free plan -- not a 7-day trial that barely lets you get started.
Automation and Productivity
- Make (formerly Integromat): Connect your store, CRM, spreadsheets, and email without writing code. The free plan covers basic order automations and notifications. If you are still copying data by hand between Shopify and a spreadsheet, this will change your week.
- Notion: Great for documenting processes, building an internal wiki, or coordinating with a small team. Free for personal use and teams of up to 10 people with plenty of functionality.
- Tally: Powerful forms with no watermark and no response limit. Perfect for post-purchase surveys, contact forms, or waitlist signups.
Design and Content
- Canva: You probably know it already, but in 2026 the free plan includes AI features for generating backgrounds and automatic resizing. For social media and store banners, it is hard to justify paying for Photoshop.
- Photopea: A browser-based image editor that opens PSD files. When you need a quick edit without installing anything, it works surprisingly well.
Data and Analytics
- Google Looker Studio: Dashboards connected to Google Analytics, Google Sheets, or databases. Free with no limits. If you are still checking metrics across five different tabs, centralize everything here.
- Microsoft Clarity: Free heatmaps and session recordings with no traffic cap. It shows you exactly where visitors click and where they get lost. It is the perfect complement to Analytics.
How to Choose Without Getting Overwhelmed
The common mistake is installing all seven at once. Pick one per specific problem:
| Problem | Tool | Setup Time |
|---|---|---|
| I copy data between systems by hand | Make | 1-2 hours |
| I do not know where visitors drop off | Clarity | 15 minutes |
| My banners look amateur | Canva | 30 minutes |
| I have no sales dashboard | Looker Studio | 2-3 hours |
The best tool is the one you actually use. Install one, use it for two weeks, and then decide if you need another.
