TikTok Shop in Latin America: What We Know, What Works, and What to Expect

TikTok Shop already moves over $20 billion a year in markets like the United States, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom. There's no full official launch in Latin America yet, but that doesn't mean you can't sell through TikTok today.

What Is TikTok Shop and Why Does It Matter?
TikTok Shop is the commerce feature built directly into TikTok. The user watches a video, taps the product, and buys without leaving the app. No redirects, no opening a browser.
It's social commerce in its purest form: the content IS the catalog.
In markets where it's active, the numbers are impressive:
- 2-3x higher conversion rate compared to traditional social traffic (because the purchase happens inside the app)
- Surprisingly high average order value -- TikTok is no longer just about cheap products
- Creators as a sales channel -- TikTok's affiliate model is stronger than Instagram's
What Can You Do Today From Latin America?
Although TikTok Shop isn't enabled as a marketplace in Chile or most Latin American countries, there are three paths that already work:
1. Link in bio + product content. The simplest and most effective approach right now. Post content that shows your product in use (not an ad -- a video people actually want to watch) and direct them to the link to your store.
2. TikTok Ads with conversion objectives. TikTok's advertising platform IS available in Chile, Mexico, and other markets in the region. You can run campaigns with a conversion pixel pointing to your store. CPMs are lower than Meta for younger audiences (18-35).

What Kinds of Products Work on TikTok?
Not everything sells equally well on TikTok. What works best:
- Products with a visual "wow factor" -- before/after, satisfying unboxing, transformations
- Impulse price point -- under $40 USD, the decision is quick
- Defined niche -- skincare, home decor, tech accessories, kitchen, pets
- Products that are better explained in video than in a photo
What does NOT work as well: generic products without differentiation, complex services, or items that require extensive customization.
Get Ready for When It Arrives
TikTok Shop will come to Latin America -- the question is when, not if. Mexico will likely be first, followed by other markets.
What you can do today to be ready:
- Build organic presence on TikTok. Post 3-5 videos per week showing your product, your process, your team.
- Prepare a clean catalog with photos and videos for each product.
- Experiment with TikTok Ads even on a small budget -- learn how the platform works before everyone else jumps in.
